YOUR MINI CAR SERVICE GUIDE

As a happy owner of a new or used MINI from Dick Lovett, you understand how important it is to keep your vehicle in top shape. Our guide to managing your MINI service, as well as what’s covered in intermediate and full-service inspections, will help you remain on top of your auto maintenance schedule.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOUR MINI NEEDS SERVICE?

When your MINI requires maintenance, a light or message will appear on the dashboard as a reminder. MINIs are equipped with one of two systems that alert owners when their vehicle requires maintenance. Depending on the model’s age, your MINI will include either a Service Interval Indicator (SII) or Condition Based Servicing (CBS). Older MINIs have an SII, which monitors your MINI’s mileage and warns you via dashboard icons as to what kind of maintenance is required. The SII will notify you if an interim or full service is due soon, giving you enough time to schedule your MINI servicing.

Instead of displaying a warning on the dashboard, the CBS, which comes standard on newer MINI models, transfers data to your MINI key, which our experts analyze to determine what repairs your car need. MINI CBS examines a variety of things, including oil levels and wear and tear. It uses time and distance to alert drivers of MINI service intervals and gives prior notice of required service. Regular servicing and maintenance are suggested to keep your MINI in top working condition and to address any possible faults before they become a more serious or costly problem.

WHAT DOES A MINI SERVICE INCLUDE?

Depending on the vehicle’s age and mileage, a MINI service may include a variety of maintenance examinations as well as more specialized requirements. A comprehensive service could be scheduled every 12 months or 10,000 miles on a regular MINI service plan. If your MINI is equipped with a CBS system, the service intervals will be adjusted based on mileage.

There may be extra frequent servicing requirements for your MINI in addition to complete services. MINIs built before 2006, for example, will require an oil change every 12 months or 10,000 miles, as well as a brake fluid service and an air conditioning service and refresh every two years.

Oil changes are recommended every two years or 18,000 miles on newer MINIs.

An engine oil service ensures that your MINI’s engine runs smoothly and efficiently. The old oil is drained and replenished with fresh.

Unfortunately, the friction of your brakes causes your brake pads to wear down over time, and they will need to be replaced time and time again.
